Carbon Catch-up: We Have Passed Our Carbon Footprint Audit
Recorra have officially passed our GHG Inventory Verification with NQA. Read this months Carbon Catch-up from our Net Zero Strategist, Kirsten Zoe Smith, celebrating this hug milestone.
At Recorra, we’re pleased to partner with Better Bankside to increase recycling rates and promote sustainability within our local community. By collaborating with such a forward-thinking organisation, we’re not only driving recycling efforts but also engaging in meaningful educational experiences which empower our team and align with our values.
One recent highlight was the opportunity for members of our Sustainability Team to attend an intensive Carbon Literacy training session hosted by Positive Planet. This training is a must for anyone who is interested in working towards a more sustainable future, not only by reducing their personal carbon footprint, but also by learning about the roles that the government and large corporations should be taking to structurally combat climate change.
The session was not only rich with insights into the science behind greenhouse gas emissions and the environmental impact of everyday decisions, but was also packed with tips on how to reduce our burden on the planet, from top tips on how to shop second hand to informative facts about our meal choices (did you know that switching to a plant-based diet is the most impactful way to reduce your carbon footprint from food, by up to 73%!). We also discussed the ethical implications of financial choices, such as pensions, which many people don’t realise are commonly invested in fossil fuel industries. The training included guidance on switching to ethical funds which prioritise environmental responsibility, leaving our team with a deeper understanding of the interconnected nature of climate challenges.
Following the carbon footprint training day, individuals are encouraged to make two pledges on how they will reduce their carbon footprint going forward in order to officially be deemed carbon literate. This results in tangible, long-standing change which aligns with Recorra’s goal of fostering a culture of sustainability. As more individuals earn their certification, we hope to see a snowball effect, where others in our company and community also take similar steps to reduce their emissions.
What makes this experience so compelling is that it not only equips individuals with knowledge, but also emphasises a sense of collective responsibility. At Recorra, we believe that sustainability isn’t just about making changes within our organisation; it’s about inspiring our partners and the wider community to join us on this journey. With each person who becomes Carbon Literate, the potential for positive environmental change grows.
A huge thank you to the team for hosting this transformative and well-rounded session. Together with Better Bankside, we are proud to be taking steps towards a greener planet.
