This international E-waste day we are celebrating the next generation. Encouraging the passing down of knowledge when it comes to securing the world's precious resources.

Ever wondered what happens during your work experience at Recorra?

Well, 15-year-old Gustas spent his work experience week with Sammy, our ITAD (that’s IT Asset Disposal) manager at our state-of-the-art materials recycling facility in Purfleet, Essex. Throughout the week, he assisted one of our technicians with data wiping, asset management, refurbishing and re-marketing of used electronics.

So, what did Gustas think about his experience?

“It was a great experience working with Recorra’s ITAD team, I have learnt a lot of new skills as well as meeting some nice and interesting people. This was my first experience of being in a workplace and it has given me good insight into some of the other careers that are out there.”

When asked if he’d repeat this experience, Gustav said “I would 100% do it again as it was a very enjoyable experience and there’s a lot more to learn. Thanks to Sammy and his team for taking the time to help me acquire new life skills.”

It’s great to hear the next generation experiencing more about the world of work and really stuck in.

Sammy, our ITAD Manager commented that:

“Gustas was a great addition to our IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) team, shame it was only for a week. He completed all the tasks set and used his initiative if he was unsure of what to do. He got stuck in and was doing more than just making cups of tea. His knowledge of Data Destruction, IT Recycling & Refurbishment came a long way during his time with us and I hope he will look at a career in IT Recycling when he has finished his education. He will always be welcome within our team.

On his last day, we gave Gustas two faulty laptops and challenged him to create a working laptop from the available parts. He successfully refurbished it, and it was gifted to him as a thank you for his hard work and to help with his upcoming GCSE’s.”

At Recorra, we are passionate about nurturing the next generation and providing an array of opportunities to help them understand the importance of sustainable recycling behaviours. When we have capacity to offer more work experience, we’ll signpost it on our social media so keep your eyes peeled!
