Paper Towel Recycling Transforms Moorplace’s Recycling Rate

Recorra’s Paper Towel Recycling service now accepts all brands of paper towels. No matter what brand is in your bathroom, they can be recycled again and again through our circular process.

About The Client

Moorplace is a central London office building committed to taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. In September, they introduced Recorra’s Paper Towel Recycling to cut general waste and boost recycling performance.

Our Client's Challenge

Paper towels are one of the most common items in workplace washrooms, but they traditionally end up in general waste due to their short fibres and wet-strength agents. This increases disposal costs and carbon impact. Moorplace wanted a solution that would reduce waste, improve recycling rates, and support ESG goals.

Our Solution

Recorra implemented a dedicated Paper Towel Recycling stream using our Recycling Hub and colour-coded collection sacks. With Recorra’s Recycling Hub, the single-drop front bin can store multiple waste streams, so no extra space is needed. Our colour-coded sacks keep materials separate, allowing Moorplace to capture a clean fibre stream without adding complexity to their existing waste system.

Achievements

In just three months, the results were clear:

  • Paper towels collected: 906 kg
  • Percentage of waste collected: 8%
  • Recycling rate: jumped from 74% to 85%

Compared to producing new paper towels, this process saved:

  • 290 bathtubs of water
  • Enough energy to power a home for over five months
  • 15 trees

Why It Matters

Adding a dedicated Paper Towel Recycling service can cut general waste by up to 20%, reduce costs, and deliver measurable environmental benefits:

  • Up to 40% lower CO₂ emissions compared to other disposal methods
  • Saves 26,000 litres of water per tonne of paper towels recycled
  • Preserves 17 trees per tonne of paper towels recycled
