About the client
Plumpton College is enhancing sustainability across its working campus through a data‑driven partnership with Recorra. As a specialist land and environment college in East Sussex, environmental responsibility sits at the heart of both its curriculum and daily operations. With around 3,500 students across a 2,000‑acre estate, the College is committed to reducing waste, improving resource efficiency, and setting a strong example for the wider education sector.
Our Client’s Challenge
Plumpton College operates a diverse estate including a working farm, hospitality facilities, teaching spaces, and student accommodation, all of which generate a wide mix of waste streams. Back in 2019 when our partnership began, the College needed clearer visibility of waste data and stronger student engagement to ensure consistent, accurate, and campus‑wide recycling.
Services Provided
Our Approach
Recorra created a targeted waste management strategy designed to meet operational needs while boosting campus‑wide engagement. This included:
- Detailed waste audits to identify opportunities for improvement
- On‑campus engagement activities, such as our interactive Bin Pong game, which helps students learn recycling best practice in a fun, memorable way
- Support for student‑led initiatives, including the Pickup Plumpton campaign, which encouraged responsible waste disposal and invited students to share ideas for future improvements
- Comprehensive waste services, covering General Waste, Mixed Recycling, Glass, Food Waste, Cardboard, and Batteries and Vapes Recycling
We also introduced clear reporting to improve data visibility, optimise collection schedules, and guide ongoing enhancements.
The Results
The partnership has helped Plumpton College boost recycling performance, reduced environmental impact, and improvedunderstanding of waste across campus. Better data insight enables informed decision‑making, while student engagement activities have embedded positive recycling habits and strengthened the College’s commitment to a circular economy.
