E-bike collection
Climate change continues to be one of the most pressing issues facing our planet, and Recorra is keen to help tackle the causes head on. Our vehicle fleet is amounts to around 80% of our greenhouse gas emissions, therefore, we are investing £7million over the next decade to decarbonise our fleet.
The exciting next step in Recorra’s plan to reach net zero by 2030 is the introduction of our new waste collection electric cargo bikes (or e-bikes). In partnership with Pedal Me. Our e-cargo bikes will be used to assist on-street sack collections, to deliver commercial waste bags to businesses, and to monitor littering hot spots. With zero tailpipe emissions, this scheme will help reduce our carbon footprint, help improve air quality in our city and reduce traffic in our local area.
This service is now available in SE1, BN1 and BN3.
How will the scheme work?
Our service will cover 140 miles per bike per week, offering low-density collections of 30-50 sacks a day, and high-density collections of 50-80 sacks per day. It is estimated this will save per year:
- 4,050kg of CO2 (equivalent to 8 roundtrip flights to Munich)
- 9.65kg of NOx (the equivalent emissions of 6,500 miles driven by an average petrol car)
- 301g of PM2.5 (equivalent to the smoke of around 7,500 cigarettes)
